One of the two radiators in my living room is not heating up, I suspect the TRV so have removed the head & the pin moves up & down freely. I have also bled the rad & water came out as soon as I turned the bleed valve, no hissing at all. I then tried leaving the TRV off & turning every other rad off in the house then running the heating to clear an air block if there was one, this resulted in some pipe clanking & the valve warmed up but not the rad!

This is about the end of my knowledge & ability, shall I just give in & call a plumber out?

Are you absolutely sure the valve at the other end of the rad has not been closed? After lots of head scratching , i realised that the other half had turned it off at that end as i told her " not to mess with the TRV settings" rolleyes

No reason for it to be but I did check anyway.

Maybe, if the 2 rads are on the end of the run, the other rad is taking more than its fair share of the heat. Maybe turn the good one down, to see if it changes anything?

Leave all the other rads off a before, and while trying to blast all the heat into that one rad, gently trap the body of the trv a few times... Girly taps though, not powerfully built ph'er type taps...

Sounds like the seat of the valve is sticking... May free up and be fine all winter, may get stuck the first tome the valve closes....

Worth changing, they're only cheap...

I don't think the rads are on the end of the run plus I've tried turning all the other rads off anyway.

When you say tap the valve, I'm assuming you mean the metal part under the TRV as I have tried it with the TRV removed & it made no difference? I'm assuming a relative numpty like me should leave changing valves to somebody who knows what they're doing?

I'd suspect a partial blockage in the return pipe. Air? If the valve was stuck it would be unlikely to get heat to it.

How would I clear that?

Has it a drain off on it or near by? Could try dragging a bit through to see if it pulls any air out.

Forgot about this thread....

You should be piped up like this...

Not one continuous loop...

eta... either of these would work, the bottom better than the top though...
