Toyo Proxes T1-R - Winter usage
Discussion
Well my car needs a new set of tyres, despeite having had 2 new on the front 2 months ago the insides are like slicks so getting the tracking done at the same time I change them. T1R's seem to be pretty cheap at the moment and was wondering if anybody had run them over the winter at all? What are they like especially in the snow? Ive only got a pug 206 so nothing speciall. But last year On the goodyears I had the only time I got stuck was the first morning it snowed and I Couldnt get out of my village simply due to the fact the roads around me hadnt been gritted. after it had been cleared and I could get out it was fine, I did quite a few miles in the snow last year actually.
So anyway whats your opinions on these?
Thanks

Personally, I ran T1R's on my Saab 9-5 and found them surprisingly bad in snowy conditions, although I was able to get by - just about.
I now run a set of T1R's on my E36 328i (because I still really like them for 90% of the year), but have a separate set of wheels and winter tyres for the other 10% of the year because I'd not be interested in piloting a RWD car through snow with the T1Rs, based on my experience with the 9-5!

Can't comment on the tyres, but rather than having just the tracking done, it may be a good idea to get the cars whole geometry checked out . . . . . not sure where you are in Gwynedd, but can recommend Demon Tweeks in Wrexham (may be a bit of drive if you’re the other side of Caernarfon!)

By the way if your are interested mine were 195/45/R16 V and paid £141 something fitted and balanced for 2 through black circles.
Ive allready seen them on blackcircles thats why im considering getting a set whilst there down in price. In my size it's gonna cost me £175 for 4 deliverd then a local independant tyre fitter to me changes tyres for free and will do the tracking for £20 so happy days
I find them fine on my MR2. Up till recently I've driven 60 miles to work/back all year round and they have been excellent on some very twisty roads. I used to set off to work at about 6:00am and only missed 1 day in the last two years due to snow.
Tyres are supposed to perform worse below 7 degrees or something but I have to say I never noticed and the MR2 generally lets you know exactly what's happening at all four wheels. However I'm not the Stig so don't drive at the limit when cold/icy/wet.

I running my second set of T1Rs on my TVR Chimaera 450. Excellent in the wet, the old Bridgestones used to aquaplane at the slightest puddle but the Toyos let me drive through standing water on the motorway no problem. Can also put down a fair percentage of full torque on wet roads.
Got home on them in the snow including up a reasonably steep hill with a run, which is saying something with a 1 ton rear-wheel drive car but I wouldn't say they were a winter tyre, it is still a summer tyre.
For snow conditions, fit some Autosocks - I've just bought some for the Audi but not used them yet. By all accounts they make a heck of a difference.

Budget tyres, very cheap, soggy sidewalls, not very good at all and I found them to be useless in very cold conditions last year.
I replaced my set of 7mm Toyos T1-R with a some of old part worn bridgestones winter tyres and the grip was transformed in cold/wet/damp and snow. It was incredible how much more grip it had with the Toyo's removed.
Last winter I had a set of nearly new 4 x T1R on an Integra Type R (with LSD) and those Toyos were shockingly bad in cold/frosty/snow conditions. Playing around with tyre pressures in the snow as low at 15 on the front upto 32 I just could not get these tyres to work in slippy conditions at all.
I drive lots of different cars and try lots of different tyre combinations and these tyres are not very good in winter.

Just put a set on my Mini Cooper S.
Awesome in the dry! Fly around roundabouts no problem!
Slightly slippery in the wet but hasnt rained too much since putting them on. Lots of rain forecasted for this week so will let you know how they are!
