Buying an E60 M5 - Advice
Discussion
I'm just about to pull the trigger on an M5, so want opinion on price and the deal generally.
The short list is down to E60 or E61 M5 or Jag XFR. The M5 saloon is looking the best deal on paper. I'll be be part-ex'ing my 535D touring - 54k miles '06 NAV fully loaded carbon black/black.
I previously owned an e39 M5 so i know the importance of condition and a BMW warranty.
1st car - £28k E60 M5, 29k miles '08, silverstone II with silverstone leather, mint, all the toys, warranty. Offering 13k for mine. My concern with this one is last service was at 13k miles.
2nd car - £30K E61 M5, 30k miles '08, Silverstone with black, all the toys, warranty. Offering 13.5k p for mine. Problem here is black leather, much keener on silverstone. Plus coming out of a tourer saloon might make a change. Plus suspect might hold value better.
3rd car - £34K Jag XFR 5.0, 15K miles, '59 plate. All the toys, but not an M5 and obviously cost more, but a newer car.
What do you think? Would you take an M5 from a dealer that hadn't been serviced in 15k miles, even if the service lights were all green?

If coming from a BMW dealer they need to ensure all items on the idrive that are due within 4k are sorted (below taken from BMW website):
A used BMW can only become Approved if has been maintained in strict accordance with BMW Servicing recommendations. That's just for starters. We'll also carry out any necessary work before delivery if we find your car has a service due within 4,000 miles or its Service Interval Light system, which intelligently calculates when services are due based on your driving habits, shows less than three lights.
The only exception is where a car has an associated Service Package which reduces the requirement to 1,000 miles or one service light
When I got my car there were a few items that I brought to the dealer's attention and had done before taking delivery.
Something worth knowing if buying from a main dealer.

Option 1 looks good. When is the next service due? I don't recall my e60 having green lights for service countdown, just info on the idrive. If the next service is imminent, why not try to get them to do it for you gratis? The short list is down to E60 or E61 M5 or Jag XFR. The M5 saloon is looking the best deal on paper. I am in the same boat...
Drove the jag and thought it a great drive especially with a sports exhaust.
Really want an m5 but not sure I could live with the gearbox, coming from a 2008 m3 dct.
The m5 just feels very old tech, especially at slow speeds.
Unless anyone can tell me what I am doing wrong please.
I would go for the e61... They seem lot more rare, but then again smaller market and maybe harder to sell on
Good position to be in I think...
Very interested to know what you go for

- Silverstone II with Silverstone interior - only options missing that I wanted were the multi-function seats. Absolutely mint condition.
