Dear Heads

Does anyone have 16 inch front rims on their griff? Opinions please as I am thinking of putting the same rubber front and rear on mine, ie 225/50/16.

Please discuss.

My griff has had 16's on the front for many years. I run 225/45's

Well worth it, reduced understeer and made the car feel more 'planted' It's also easier to get tyres, I run 225 on the front 245 on the rear.

so, next question is what offset etc, or is it the same as the rears?

The SE's ran the same offset at the front as the rears.

I do happen to know where there is a set of SE estorils for sale.....

I run rears on the front, which I assume is the same as the SEs as I can't imagine TVR had 100 pairs made just for the last cars.

They sit slightly inset on the front but it's not really noticeable. I needed a couple of rack stops to stop the offside inner rim catching on the lower suspension arm on full lock but I believe it all depends how centrally mounted your rack is.

I had to buy a full set and and then sold the unwanted 15" rims.

I had always assumed that whilst SE's had 16" wheels all round, the front wheels were narrower than the rear. Is this why using 16" rear wheels on the front of a non SE car the rims hit the rackstops?

I wouldn't be surprised to find that SEs have rackstops or that they simply took more care centring the rack. As I said I doubt that TVR got a batch of 16"s especially made for the last 100 cars

Can someone check my maths on this.

rear 16" wheel on a Griff standard ET is 35 with 7 1/2" width.
front 15" wheel ET is 25 7" width

so if you put the 16 j7.5 on the front, to get the wheel centered same as the 15 j7 you need a 10mm spacer? (giving a 6mm extra wheel width each side of the original 15")

Does anyone run spacers on 16" on the front?

I don't run spacers and I don't think they're needed, apart from the rack stop requirement if necessary they just bolt on.
