Hi everyone
Our S type R's engine has died and we are trying to source an exchange engine for a good price.

We are getting quotes of £4,508.40 from main dealer but struggling to get prices from any where else.

Is it better to buy a secondhand engine or try to rebuild the current engine ?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Med1c,

Sorry to hear the news.

I have a reasonably high mileage S-Type 4.2 V8 SE, not the R but essentially the same engine, and I'd be interested to know what's happened to cause your engine to fail.

thanks
R

Hi R

Strange situation really.

There was no oil in the engine at all !

I know that sounds like a stupid thing to ignore but the warning light didnt come on at all and oil was put in just two weeks ago.

There were no visible leaks either during storage of the vehicle.

The car still runs fine but sounds like metal on metal and the sound is loud!

I was told the term is "Rod slap!" and this is causing the loud banging noise.

To take engine out is a days labour but we now have to strip the engine down to view the exact damage caused and to make the decision of whether we use new components or just fit a new engine.

Either way its not going to be cheap !

Will post more tomorrow when we start

Hope this info helps ?

All the best

P
