One for anyone with a bit more electrical knowledge than me - I've got a light fitting that has an old fashioned (suitable for dimming) bulb, but the instructions with the fitting suggest that it is "non-dimmable". Having hooked it up with the current switch on that circuit which is a dimmer, all seemed fine, but after about 5 mins the dimmer switch has lost its ability to dim and now just does on and off. Can anyone help explain why this might be, really just so I know whether I need to just buy a normal toggle switch or should try another dimmer!? Thanks

What type/rating of lamp are you trying to dim?
Some low voltage & energy saving lamps aren't dimmable.

Thanks for the reply - This is where I can't understand why - the bulb is a 100w old fashioned bulb, which the chap in our local hardware shop went to great pains to advise was dimmable and not one of the "rubbish, expensive ones that we have to thank our government for".

Sounds like the switch has burnt out. Replace it with one that is rated for plenty more power than you actually need (e.g. 300W / 500W).
