Hello all,

I currently have Sky+ with a HD box and I'm on the basic package £19.50 per month (or there abouts).

We are moving and the new place doesn't have a dish. Should I:

1/ buy a Sky+ dish and fit it myself (done it before, not really looking forward to it).

2/ tell Sky and let them do everything. Is there a cost? I cannot see if there is on their (useless) website.

3/ leave and then come back under partner's name. It seems I would get a new free HD box and £25 M&S vouchers but there is a charge of (at least) £30. I could flog the new box I suppose.

I need to stay with Sky because no one else gives the HD channels they do (I only watch the main channels anyway). I'm in Scotland so I need the larger dish. Been with them for over ten years now. Not interested in their phone or broadband deals.

Thanks.

If you're out of the contract now, I'd just close the account and arrange the new dish and box from sky in your partners name.

No hassle your end, free new box and dish, most likely a deal to be had too (quidco etc).

You can sell the old box too.

Cancel. Rejoin in partners name via quidco - the cashback will more than cover any new install costs.

Do the same with all utilities that you can. I got well over £300 in cashback when I moved into our new place a couple of years ago.

Do you have a Sky dish installed?

When you book an installation appointment, our Sky engineers can come out and install one for free.
It doesn't say how much the 'installation appointment' is, just that the dish is free.

Thanks for the other replies about leaving and rejoining.

Yes, our standard Home Move visit is free of charge. There will only be a cost if you are buying new equipment, need a repair on an existing box or your installation is non standard. A non standard installation is when we can’t install the dish to your home without using additional kit for example - when we need to install the dish to your chimney using a special fixing kit called a T&K bracket.

Sky does not charge customers for extra set-up equipment such as T&K Brackets. Some sub-contractors operating in the Highlands and Islands region may charge extra for this equipment. Third party charges may apply for Broadband and Talk.

Ok, so I'm blind/stupid.

However, it seems best to leave and come back (if that is correct, why doesn't everyone do the same?)

Why? They will move you free of charge and you are not tying yourself into a new 12 month contract.

Because you can get up to £155 cashback from Quidco, £100 M&S Vouchers from Sky and a new Sky Box (so you have a backup box if needed). I'd say that's worth being tied in for 12 months (let's face it, you're not likely to move your package then move to Virgin within 12 months are you?)
