Thanks guys!
After some advise from Pumajay, tomorrow night after finishing work I shall be ordering a full powerflex kit and a full set a strut braces as well as some lowering springs. also I will be carrying out a 300mm brake conversion.
Very excited to say the least!
Next on the agenda is to do some very minor power tweaks.
will keep this fully updated.

Don't stick Powerflex in the rear beam, it will be AWFUL on anything but very smooth tarmac (been there, done that, changed back to standard).
Also 300mm brake conversion won't fit behind the propeller style wheels without about a 3mm spacer and some grinding back of the caliper carriers. You would be better with a 280mm Fiesta ST conversion.
Are you familiar with pumapeople.com?

Hey
My OH, Dee was driving us to a house party last night, I had already had a few drinks so she drove.
It had been raining so the roads were greasy, we had picked up her friend. So the car was 3 up with a boot full of Booze etc
Came off the Motorway onto the slip road quickly but not stupidly fast (Dee drives quicker than most other road users but is not reckless) and the back end stepped out about 10-15inches and stayed there all the way round the bend, it was so progressive that I thought I had imagined it as I wasn't really paying attention.
Then 2 minutes later we went round a tightish round-a-bout and it did the same thing, she had not lifted off the throttle, she was accelerating off to the exit.
Now I thought all of this was great! It's a refreshing change from the miserable understeer that our Audi A3 insisted on!
But I could see that it knocked Dee's confidence in the puma.
How would you advise her to deal with it if it happens again and she does not want it to happen (I do)
I have only really experienced this in RWD cars before, where if provoked I would power through it or if not, counter steer and ease of the throttle.
But If she was the jump off the throttle, would it exaggerate the problem? due to lift off oversteer etc?
I am so bloody impressed with this little car, I should have bought one years ago!
Please offer up some tips and past experiences
Cheers

Stick some better tyres on the back; what have you got on there at the moment? I have T1Rs on the back, and some cheaopo ones that I'm about to replace on the front. Because the (much) better rubber is on the back I only ever get understear becasue the front tyres are s
t. Looking forward to replacing them very soon for another pair of toyos, should be a lot better once I have four matching corners.

Ling longs on the rear!! I actually thought they were a made up tyre by the PH masses! just like Ditch Finders! Lol
I guess that could have something to do with it.
In that case I will replace all four tyres, what should I go for? not doing any track work etc

that'll be it then!Well I am very happy with Toyo T1R's I've got on my puma, and they do seem to be a very popular choice for the car. Blackcircles have them for just over £50 fitted, camskill for £36 not fitted I think. The great thing about the puma though is 195 50 15 tyres don't cost a lot so you can get some premium stuff for not a lot more than toyos. That said, the T1R is usually rated as highly, or more so than the top brands for handling and grip, but they are known for wearing quite quick.

How do the T1 Rs fare in the wet.
I think we need a good all season tyre that will cope well even when the temperature drops.

They fare well. I have tried very hard to get the back end out with a bit of lift off oversteer on a wet roundabout bit it just won't, just get understreer becauase of the crappy rubber on the front, and the back just sticks.I think we need a good all season tyre that will cope well even when the temperature drops.

Rare to see a rust free example… niceAfter some advise from Pumajay, tomorrow night after finishing work I shall be ordering a full powerflex kit and a full set a strut braces as well as some lowering springs. also I will be carrying out a 300mm brake conversion.

The first thing I would be doing before fitting all of that is getting some waxoyl behind the arches and sills as it will rust, they all do that sir.
Have fun!
Dont think I can put new tyres off for much longer, after losing the back end in quite a big way.
I was merging onto a motorway off a tight slip road, when with no warning the back end kicked out 90degrees before I managed to save it! Wow, I was not expecting that!
Linglongs should come with a health warning!!!

What kind of steering input were you making to get the back end going at a right angle? How tight is the joining angle from this sliproad?I was merging onto a motorway off a tight slip road, when with no warning the back end kicked out 90degrees before I managed to save it! My MX5 with P6000's on the back was prone to unexpected kicks and slides at the back, but only under cornering load or across bumps in the road. This Puma sounds deadly, those tyres must be s
t!Nice car. I had something similar on a Mk1 Mondeo I bought years ago that had some sort of very hard plasticcy 'Dark Horse' or 'Road Horse' tyres on the back. The back end went at, ahem, 70 mph, I panicked, lifted-off and... skidddddddddddddd sideways....crunch.
I bought some Michelins and never had a problem again -I'd also learned to STAY ON/INCREASE THE GAS (-it loads the back tyres and the back will follow the front)
