I have a Chimaera 500. The voltage from the back of the Alternator is going between 14v and 16v. I first noticed it with the lights (headlights and interior) getting brighter and then dimming.

Does this sound like a simple alternator fault or something else that would be causing the alternator to vary?

It sounds like the regulation on the alternator is failing, It should be around 14 volts and no more. Higher voltages dumped into the battery cause it to gas and loose electrolyte so the fault needs to be rectified ASAP before it does some damage.

I've just had my alternator replaced on the advice of Dulfords for the identical symptoms.
