Time For Tea? Wall Of Death...With Added Lion

Yes, it is exactly what it sounds like...

Today's teatime treat comes courtesy of our very own PH2 biker-man Jon Urry.

It's the answer to a question nobody in a sound mental state should be asking, namely: how do you make that most tricky of petrol-based circus feats, the wall of death, more challenging?

The answer, for this lot at least, is obvious: chuck a lion into the mix. Blimey they were crazy back in the 1930s... the evenings are long without telly, Facebook or PistonHeads, we suppose...

So Jon, do you fancy giving it a go with a motorbike and sidecar for us...?

Brilliant - they didn't piss around with health and safety back then!
Loads of toys made from real mercury and dollies with heads that came off to reveal a spike to stab your sibling with.

Happy daze...

Bonkers!

Wouldn't get away with it now though just think of all the agencies and charities that would be piping up about health and safety + cruelty to wild animals/open topped cars/wooden banking/smoking public/no seat belts/driver out of hours/no neck brace/no tax insurance, MOT, lights etc etc etc

Just taking the lion for a spin dahling! Pip pip!

Marvellous stuff. I love how the driver gives the lion a whack at the end for good measure. The thing might have had his hand off if it hadn't have probably been feeling a bit sick.

Looks like the lion was the mane attraction. wink Luckily, they'd fed Leo beforehand, or otherwise it wouldn't have been just the driver/car spinning around but the the cameraman as well !! Wonder what they fed Leo ......... "Finch and Chimps" perhaps lick

For those that haven't seen it (and well worth seeing if you haven't) at Goodwood Revival, Silverstone historic and other events, that very wall of death in the film is still in use to this day. The Demon Drome - wall of death, run by a great bunch of people, the Seymour family and who put on a great show. http://www.demondrome.com/History.html

Whenever the picture is from time wise and when I see a Male Lion now, I always think they have a Seventies look about them.
