I've had a little mishap with one of my lenses, just wondering if it's actually worth claiming on the insurance! Having never claimed against camera specific insurance I thought I'd see what the general consensus was as to what point it becomes financially worthwhile and what increase to expect in premiums as a result. Lens is only my sigma 24-70 2.8 (so probably about £600 or so to replace new?) but I've seen them fairly cheap on t'ebay...

Good point. One of my lenses did a double back-flip off a filing cabinet and the repair was £400. House insurance paid out but at renewal time they wanted almost double... so proceed with care.

Hence - pay premiums and never claim. May as well save the premiums eh?!

That's my concern. Obviously if I'd lost my Nikon 24-70 I'd be claiming, just not sure if it's worth it for the sigma! Kind of hoping as its pro camera insurance it may be different...

I suppose you could call them and ask 'If I claim £X for this, what will you do to my premium next year'?

I try not to drop things, although a piece of Regent Street did jump up and hit my 17-55 f2.8 once headache

claimed about £1500 for dropped and trashed D300s and 18-105mm on contents. Renewal premium went up about £30!
