Hoping to have the Chimaera back on the road by the end of the month. Having taken the old engine out and dressed the new one at home it's starting to get a bit cold and wet to crawl round underneath it in the yard, so we're going to ship it off to Dulfords in the near future.
We just need to combine this:

And this:

And hopefully it should be up and running by December (at which point I can confidently predict it will snow for the rest of the winter just to annoy me).

Well, having done the sums it wasn't going to be economical to repair the old engine. We could have in-line bored the block and fitted a new crank, but by that point we were approaching the cost of a second hand engine. And once we started talking about replacement engines the idea of adding a few tweaks to beef it up for track use and hopefully adding a few more bhp cropped up.
To cut a long story short (no pun intended) we went for a brand new V8 Developments 5-litre performance short-engine (cross-bolted with forged pistons, H-beam steel rods, 96mm top hat liner bores, uprated crank etc.) plus a new Stealth 270 cam and the (standard 5-litre) heads off the original engine. There's also a new upgraded clutch and various bits of preventative maintenance like uprated head gaskets. Should be quite lively.
