Acceptable delivery miles.

We picked up a 61, new registered vehicle today and was slightly surprised to see the mileage read 450miles.

Is this higher than average? What car have you bought and what was the delivery mileage?

I've never bought a new car but I'd not be happy with any miles at all, that's what lorries are for...... Over 10 miles would annoy me, but 400+? That's taking the p**s IMHO

What does the book say about running in the engine? Is it important in your car? If so, I'd be less pleased as you know not how it was driven.

400 miles is the distance between London and Edinburgh, not acceptable on a 'new' car IMO

Thats taking the piss, I bet it's been on a few test drives over the last week or so. I would class that as an ex demo car.

When we bought a new Ka a few years back we were let out in one just off the transporter, I questioned wether it was a customers car and was told upto 100 miles is classed as delivery mileage.

When I worked as a car transporter driver for Toyota any car with more than 25 miles could not be classed as brand new. It was one of the first things that was checked when the car came off the truck.

No-one knows how their nice, new, shiny car has been driven before they collect it. Having seen how they're driven myself whilst working in car import/exports (as an assessment/inspection role, not driving), you wouldn't want to either...

was it pre registered or being used as demo or service loan car ?

It may sound silly but check the display wasn't on fuel range or something. My car can only display odometer or fuel range, not both. If it really was 450 miles then I wouldn't be happy, all of my new cars have had around 10 miles on when delivered.

Not pre-reg, not a demo, not a service loan vehicle.

We got my company car from drive the deal and the dealer was London based so the delivery mileage was 100 ish to Birmingham.

It only shows mileage on start up and then goes to range or odo trip which is why there is some uncertainty.

Is there an industry or standard or limit on some manufacturers cars?

Sorry but 450 is a pisstake. I bought a pre-reg a few years ago with 15 miles on the clock and a brand new one before that with 6 mile on it.

I'm guessing they used it as a demo/pool car first.

I believe anything up to 100 miles is considered acceptable by trading standards, depends on the
deal to be honest, if the car is a dealer tansfer and there is no money in the car to get it on a transporter it is often driven,
the customer is always made aware of this though first.
