Watching her Greek Odyssey and she is absolutely awful. Her gushing tones and constant 'awe' at everything she sees is so annoying. Compared to Michael Palin or Alan Whicker she is an embarrasment. How on earth did she get this role?

Quite, she really does have a dreary tone. To be fair its a bit of a characteristic of posh folk, in that most everyday things can be the most amazing thing ever whilst anything that constitutes getting excited, like chopping your arm off is passed over as a mere flesh wound.

Never seen the attraction as far as she is concerned. Must be a Market for cabbage smelling totty smile

I quite like her and the show. She's gushy, sure, but seems a good laugh, up for it, and appreciates the country and its history.

She's fairly 'posh'....but she plays far 'posher'....which is nauseating. Rather like the champagne crusties outside St Pauls at present, who are playing the other card....badly.

Joanna Lumley? Liking Old Greeks you say? There were rumours about that back in the 70's....

Can't really beat Bettany Hughes if you want to see 'proper' documentaries of this ilk - this series is more dumbed down than a US National Geographic doc (utter crap)

Glad someone else thinks the same. Her voice is just so look at me, look at me all the time. May as well called it the Joanna Lumley show.

Yes, I agree about Purdey but thats the character NOT the actress.

She does a lot for charity though, so respect from me, IMO.

Me too, she's lovely, a British Institution.

I can see where the OP is coming from though, watching the series I've actually felt a little embarrassed for her. The whole Posh Luvvie thing can be a bit cringe-worthy at times, and she really did need to tone it down.

The Ghurkas might disagree, given the way that one turned out.

Yep, I'd go as far as saying that..... I've felt embarrassed for her only because I love her.

Not well.
A rich man in Nepal is a very poor/benefit-reliant one in the UK.
Ms Lumley glossed over that bit.

She's friends with the Rothschild family. That itself makes her repulsive enough for me.

I lost a lot of respect for her when she recently started advertising ambulance chasers on local radio. I can't describe my revulsion for celebs who feel the need to top up their sizeable bank balances by stooping to that level.
