I still fancy a Renault......

Great car in their day.
They did everything that cars like the Maxi failed to do. Rugged tireless engines and drive trains.
In common with every car of that time (and most today) Rust is a problem but can be held back with Waxoyl or similar product.
Really roomy car with good load carrying potential. One of the best medium sized Renault's ever made and Renault are good at this type of tourer/work horse. Beloved of young families and one of the early family hatch successes.
Not for me but I only collect British cars preferably BMC.

But how much electricity would have been knocking about in a 16 to start with? Surely nowhere near as much as a modern car.
OP, if you really want classic, why not keep an eye out for a Renault 10?
No, I wouldn't be put off by the electrics as you rightly said there really is very little other than electric front windows & c/l. I suspect a modern alternator and perfect earth points would solve most issues.OP, if you really want classic, why not keep an eye out for a Renault 10?
As for an 8 or 10, sorry but they don't appeal in the same why, I hate engine stuck out the back and the 16 it would be fair to say is mid engined, far better and overall the car has so much more going for than it juniors imo. Spare parts may be an issue, especially trim & panels.
