I just wonder how many people drive BMW-M cars, RS Audis, AMG Mercs or 911s etc as their daily car and if it affects their driving style at all? I think because it's so easy to go quite quick in the thing everyone else seems to be permanently pootling.

On my daily drive, it's not important. Average speed is about 30mph frown

0-60 just under 8 seconds E39 528- not terribly quick but quicker than the average commuter car I guess.

Caterham 7 for my daily. Although I'm thinking of getting a defender which will by no means be fast!

Just thinking about it, I've never owned one car out of dozens that could do 60 in less than 6sec.

So, it's a big No from me.

My e46 M3 is my dailer driver, but that may all change soon.

I'm seriously considering getting rid of it and have an Elise (or similar) for weekends and track days, and some sort of boring diesel car for the daily commute.

Because of the single carriagway roads on my 25 mile route to work there are only a handful of safe overtaking opportunities anyway, so even in an M3 I'm normally stuck in a line of traffic doing 50 mph. I may as well be stuck at 50mph in an cheap economical diesel and then have a proper sports car as well.

Until I read the details of the poll, I thought the answer was yes, but it isn't...

I wonder what percentage of cars on the road in the UK can do 0-60 in under 6 seconds? I'd say, in reality, that's pretty damned quick for most cars, rather than 'quite fast'.

I think the ruling criteria for 'pretty damned quick' cars has been re-written now that 535Ds and the like are around.

Aye, they're not the fastest things around.

Wonderful noise at 5K revs in third, though.

Not sure what the significance of the 535D is. I guess you're saying because it can do 0-60 in under 6 seconds, that's no longer 'quick'?

Sure it's quick for a saloon, but it's not like it's the most common 5 on the road, is it or that even the cheapest 5 is an 'affordable' saloon.

Now if an Audi A4 2.0 litre was doing it in under 6 seconds, I'd agree with you smile
