just wondering of anyone had any exerience of any of the ski schools that operate around Aviemore.

Just recommendations for kids lessons in the hope that we get more snow this winter smile

I would suggest the Ski School on the mountain is the best bet.

We arranged a lesson from one of the hire shops in Aviemore last season, and when we turned up the next morning for it they told us they wouldn't be taking it as they didn't have enough people booked in for the day. By that stage it was too late to get a lesson anywhere else.

Cairngorm Snowsports which operate The Ski School and Snowboard School are the only Ski School who are based on the mountain and are also the biggest. The only drawback using them is if you also need to hire equipment then on a busy day the queues can get quite lengthy.

If you want to arrange a private lesson for your kids my recommendation would be for The School of Snowsports. They are based at the Cairngorm Hilton under the Woodshed and also have outlets at the MacDonalds Highland Resort and at Inverdruie on the ski road. They can tailor a package to whatever you want and they have very good quality hire equipment if you need it. They will also provide a ski pass as part of the package which saves you having to queue for one on the mountain.

I find it far easier getting everything organised away from the mountain especialy when kids and ski hire are concerned. That way when you arrive on the hill all you have to do is park the car and go ski-ing.

While I'm fortunate to have me own kit, my missus does need to rent skis as do any mates we take with us. We do exactly the same thing - rent from one of the places on the way there rather than from the slopes itself. It's cheaper, there's no queue and if you find a good one, their kit is usually half decent too.

Shame no-one's thought about doing an alternative hire shop for Glencoe e.g. somewhere in Tyndrum. Although last season, all of Glencoe's skis were brand new atomics and they weren't unreasonably priced.

I have also used http://www.schoolofsnowsports.co.uk/index.html and their service/ gear was very good. It's an easy place to stop on the way up as well.

I used The Ski School last year, and found them to be excellent.
I was an absolute beginner, and the class was 5 adults and 3 kids I think. 2 ex military chaps were the instructors
Excellent tuition, and by the end of the afternoon, I was able to ski from the top back down to the carpark.
The only downside of the lesson was being shown up by all the kids who picked it up much quicker than me..... Although, i do have a fair amount more bulk to propel me down the mountain at higher speeds than they did haha.

Agree, that would be a perfect place for a hire outlet. I hired a snowboard and boots at Glencoe last year: both fairly new and in good condition, but the boots were just ste - no inner lacing to hold your foot in properly. It's stopping me going back there as I can't (yet) warrant buying my own kit - I just don't do it enough.

I have used the Cairngorm Ski School on a private lesson and was really impressed. The instructor was superb, great way of teaching. It meant I was only mildly rubbish when I went Val D'Isere the following month which improved my holiday massively.
