Who would be your "Dream Team"

Chatting with some friends about Le Man and this question was asked. For me personally, it would be Martin Brundle, Mark Blundell and Johnny Herbert. Probably something to do with my age ! Not sure I could rule out McNish though, so might drop Blundell...........sorry Mark !

With me it's not only based on nostalgia but the ability of the drivers. Blundel
seven Le man starts, one win, one second one third. Johnny Herbert 1991 winner and Martin Brundle World Sports Car Champion, Daytona 24 hrs winner and Le Man winner 1991.
These guys still have it. Bundle and Blundell almost won at Daytona this year and Herbert is still winning championships !

are we talking in their prime, or today? each of the OP's were seriously quick, but Herbert, Brundle and Blundell havent race dproperly in years, and they are getting on a bit now
Anyhow, as for the greats, well all of them have raced at Le mans at one time or another. So you can include Fangio, Moss, Clark, Stewart, Hill (Phil and Graham), Mansell, Prost (well, Nicholas...), Piquet. Plus Nuvolairi, Birkin, Carrecheola (sp??), Ascari, Collins, hawthorn...
Having said that, If it won mega money on tge lottery I would enter a le mans team with a british chassis, engine, and three british drvers. There are some excellent drivvers out there waiting for their big break. No old hands, just raw british talent. With a long term programme to win every class at le mans eventually- including the overall win.

Don't know where this British bias came from, but what the hell, let's be patriotic.
Of the more recent crop of Brit P1 drivers I guess McNish stands out, but he does seem to be getting more and more crash-prone as he ages. Undoubtedly fast and you'd have him for qualifying and as an early hare, but when did he last bring a car home? Lil' Ant is just as quick and probably a safer bet.
Whilst the likes of telly's Martin Brundle, Fat Blundell and Johnny are all popular, can any of them really be considered among the true Sportscar greats? From that same era I'd probably go for more Sportscar centred drivers such as Wallace or Reid.
Going back further is where I believe you'd find the cream of British Sportscar drivers. The late 60's produced a whole crop of young British drivers who had only brief F1 careers, although their performances therein deserved far more, who then graduated to Sportscar careers of huge success and, in most cases, quite some longevity. I am of course talking of the likes of Quick Vic Elford, Dickie Attwood, Brian Redman, Derek Bell and to a lesser extent Hobbs, Fitz and even Hailwood.
Vic was the fastest of all these, but might have had too much of a penchant for specifying the fastest, lairiest versions and set ups on his cars (917 langheck?), which as much as anything cost him victory at La Sarthe. Attwood would deffo get any car home. Redman could be as fast as anyone in any car and was probably only blighted by poor luck at the 24hrs. And, of course, Dell-boy - well, what doesn't he know about winning long distance Sportscar races?
So, all time British Le Mans driver pairing? Vic, Dickie and Brian. No. Vic, Dell and Brian. No, wait, Vic, Dick, Dell...
Er, hang on though, back in their own era the cars had two-man driver pairings. So a two-car team with Elford/Redman and Attwod/Bell.
