Changing Sky+ HDD
Discussion
As is with the TV 'seasons', the planner has been 50% free for months, now I'm getting low, and with almost 10 shows a night I fear it'll fill up sharpish!
Now, the software seems slow to respond, which I reckon a 'hard reset' would cure, but I'll lose my stored info. So my plan was to get a new 1TB HDD, put that in, do a full system reset/restore and then copy the data from the old drive to the new one.
Is this possible, does the software encrypt to the HDD, ie, I then won't be able to copy the data across?

You need to be a bit careful these days depending upon what make your sky box is as I understand there are some compatibility issues (esp with the new HD EPG), but they might be ironed out now. You should also make sure you get a HDD that is designed to work with PVRs as they are far less trouble.
I did my Sky box upgrade a couple of years ago now and it's been fine ever since. the copy takes a while (best to hard wire into a PC for the copy - much quicker than the USB route), and you do need to be comfortable with taking the lid of electronic gear like PCs, but it's not rocket science.

Thanks for the link. I take stuff apart for a living, so no problems. It was more to do with the 'will I lose my data' concern. You need to be a bit careful these days depending upon what make your sky box is as I understand there are some compatibility issues (esp with the new HD EPG), but they might be ironed out now.
