Really just want to know if anyone has experience of the Kuhmo V70A, I had a set of R888 for the end of 2009 and 2010 season and they are f***ng great, car felt like it was on rails. I think I got 6 TDs out of them and the last at RAF Odiham they were bald but I loved them. I went to get another set from Camskill and the price then was around £200 each so I opted for Handkook RS2Z. These are what I would call all season TD tyres, i.e full wets, and I did Spa, Donnington and several other TDs on them. They are... Ok, better than standard road tyres but just not R888s.

The price of R888s has come back down to $143/162 and I know it sounds like a no-brainer, but I now see these Kuhmo V70a on offer, anyone tried these?

Thanks

After replacing some R888s with these I can't say I've noticed much of a difference. Both are extremely good tyres, the V70a works great in dry and damp conditions but has some problems with standing water as they all do. I'm using the hard compound on the GT3 and they don't seem to go off as quickly as the R888s did.

The GT3 is a heavier car.

I have only run triple 8's, many sets and am very happy with them.

I mostly run them on the road as well as the grip in the wet is better then road tyres!

From viewing "others" in the TVR Speed Champs, who are usingV70's, they last about half the number of sprints/speed hillclimbs than 888's. Grip is very v similar, but not longevity.

The problem with the Hankooks are that, although they warm up quick they heat up and go off after only 4 or 5 laps of hard driving, then they get squidgy, they feel too soft and become less predictable in the corners, the car moves around a lot. An instructor I had said hydrogen would help this because hydrogen doesn't heat up near as fast as air (the moisture in the air).

Comments?

smile.

I've used my triple 8's in a 40 min session on track in summer and noticed them going off only marginally and when I pulled in to the pits they were almost too hot to touch!

Excellent tyres.

Only when combined with oxygen and a spark. Wouldn't get those while track driving though would you? biggrin

I took my road wheels off last night that I fitted to run the engine in and fitted my triple 8's.

Reason was that in the wet the grip was marginal, (Avon ZZ3's), what a revelation, more grip, (in the wet) more stable, more confident = safer!

I shall keep the road wheels as spares. If I damage a wheel again on track and I have to wait 4 weeks for an inner rim I'm not grounded frown.
