2007 E60 BMW M5
Discussion
Well after craving back for a Naturally aspirated car I thought I would go all out in the shape of an e60 M5. The whole reason for me buying the car was purely for 5 litre V10 engine revving to 8250rpm!!!! but what I didnt expect was for it to be the best car I had ever owned. It handles like its on rails and for a car that ways 2 tonnes is exceptional. I can see why they use it as the ring taxi and the Nurburgring.
The car is fullly specced out and has an AC schnitzer exhaust system which I hear is very rare. Although definately not to my taste with them tail pipes so that is one thing that will be changed asap so on the look out for a standard exhaust.
The only downside is the fuel costs... now I knew they were going to be bad but its on another level I have averaged 11.4mpg over the 3 tankfuls I have used since Tuesday but I suppose that will get slightly better when th excitements wears off a bit. I have now sold my Mondeo (shed)as my parents were getting annoyed with me having 3 cars at home so this is my daily driver and toy in one...Strangely insurance is almost double the premium I was paying on the turbo. Also I love tidying little bits up on my car and can get a bit OCD at times but this car is just like a new car I cannot get over the condition. the only thing I can find is a slight tear on a sticker in the engine bay!
So plans:
Full protection detail for the winter
Replace Schnitzer exhaust with standard or eisennmann
try and see if Shell will install a V Power pump at my parents house ( nearest shell is 7 miles away!)
I Part ex'd the 911 Turbo in this topic and although I miss it so far I love the M5 better in every way apart from the looks of the car:

M5 looks stunning as did your Turbo, just out of interest what made you change to an M5, did you consider any other N/A cars ?
Its just another car on my list that I wanted to own (M5 or M6)I went to look at it and was just stunned by the condition and was offered a great deal. The choice was made clearer just from watching the many youtube clips and missing the awesome noise of my TVR prior to the 911. I wanted a higher revving N/A car because I feel they are more rewarding to drive. I have had a few turbo cars but they don't offer me the rawer driving experience I want.I also didnt think I would ever want anything but Manual cars but having the SMG gearbox and the excellent driving position means you can really push on round the twisties!
I considered an RS4 Cabriolet and will have one at somepoint but I felt I should get the M5 ticked off before Petrol prices get anymore stupid and whilst I am back at uni doing little miles (600 a month).
NOISE was mainly to blame for wanting the change because it is so addictive.

Another good choice. Specially when you get that exhaust changed.
Can't see why someone would put that junk on such a decent oem car!
the AC system will no doubt sound a lot better than the stock system, but I agree the tailpipes are hideous. I would just get a decent exhaust fabricator to remove the system, cut the tips off and weld four OEM-looking tips on to the back boxes. Best of both worlds - the best look, the best sound for the car. Can't see why someone would put that junk on such a decent oem car!

I went to custom chrome in nuneaton a well known exhaust fabricator and they can put oem look tips on this was another idea I had, but I was hoping I could make some money out of selling the ACS system. The tips dont need cutting off they are just bolted on they said they would custom make new tips and fit them for £60 all in and would only take an hour which seems a very good price
