Astra 1.9 CDTi 150 - What to look out for

Plnning on looking at one of these later as replacement dog wagon.
Most cheapies seem to be over the 100k miles point. It's unlikely to do more than around 6k a year so not an issue.

Are there any big faults on these engines? Dual mass flywheels, EGR valves etc?

6K a year, old car over 100K miles on the clock, buy a common rail diesel

Looking at diesel as i actually prefer driving them day to day.

They're a minefield of problems. The 120 engine is meant to be more reliable than the 150. The 1.7 better than all the 1.9's.

They use the same 1.9 in the Vectras, Saabs, Alfas etc and problems are well documented. They're prone to throwing timing belts at 30/40k etc as well as all the other general diesel problems.

I'd run a mile. If I wanted a diesel I'd be looking for a VAG 1.9 130 in an Octavia or Seat.

For 6k a year there is no point having a diesel. Someone i know has has to replace 2 turbos on their astra cdti.

Not sure about reliability but 3 months selling Vauxhalls compounded what I already thought I knew, that is that unless it's a VXR they're god awful things to drive.

ETA, the Insignia isn't bad but no Mondeo and the New Astra is OK.
