Just picked up a RR Sport
Discussion
We needed something to cope with the US East Coast winters - so just picked up a new 2012 model RRS. They don't sell any diesel variants here in the US, only supercharged or non supercharged. So its a 5.0 V8 HSE LUX (non supercharged) version.
Looking forward to not having to drive a RWD BMW in the snow this year!

Do you think winter tyres will be necessary? Was hoping to avoid needing to do that.
Not sure about the cabin pre heater, just picked it up so will need to read through the manual.
With decent wheels (19s) and tyres these are as capable as a disco off road, its only the shallower break over angles due to the bumpers and sills that hinders them. Not sure about the cabin pre heater, just picked it up so will need to read through the manual.
I'd personally get a winter set of wheels and tyres.
Nice purchase
Good call!
I went from an E46 BMW 330 to a RRS and the difference in winter was just astonishing
Much as the BMW was my dream car we absolutely needed better winter capability
Initially on standard 20" Pirelli Scorpions it was OK however last winter I fitted Wintrac Extremes and even in the soft UK winter we had last year
we were one of the few local cars mobile in the snowEnjoy
Very nice car that.
As for winter tyres, check the standard tyres for a m+s rating on them, they may have them or they may be a summer tyre.
Winter tyres would be recommended as 2.5tons can slide for a very long way if it's on ice. Would be a shame to damage the car if it could be avoided.
Read the manual with regard to the Terrain Response, it will have a snow and ice setting and reading the manual with let you understand how it works and how to get the best from the car in the wintry conditions that you will experience.
Otherwise, enjoy and welcome to landrover ownership, you will either love it or hate it.

They are great in the snow esp with the correct tyres, even the daughter's Focus is very good in the snow once we put winter tyres on it.
Last year we didn't get too much snow but it was below freezing for a long time, the year before though wwe had deep snow for here, about 0.5m, and the RRS was about the only car on the road around here.

I'm probably going to be picking up a set of these bad boys:

They're an American make so should be plenty of outlets our side of the pond.

That doesn't look like a winter tyre though?
