No, the article saying PHers can get a discount is just there for the lulz.

You should do if this is anything to go by;

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a....

However, I have found Adrian Flux to be laughably uncompetative whenever I got quotes from them.

Agreed. I don't think Flux have ever got within £500 of my cheapest quotes.

Try Admiral/Elephant. They seem to be ridiculously cheap for many people.

They got the business on both my Mustangs this year as they were considerably cheaper than anyone else.

You do know he has just signed up to try and get a discount on his insurance. I bet he never posts any where else.

What I've noticed with flux is that they are often more expensive on run of the mill stuff but with more specialist stuff are cheaper.

I would still give them a try - they are 50% cheaper than the competition for my vehicle.

Absolute crap in my limited experience of them. Never got as far as having a policy with them for two reasons; firstly because their quotes are wildly uncompetitive, and secondly because their staff sound uninterested at best, manic depressive at worst.

They give you a discount, but you have to ring a different number for a quote, so the sceptic in me says it's the same price but the PH price is inflated before the discount.

And even if they give a discount off of a quote, it will probably still be stupidly expensive and you will probably have laughable customer service.

Specialist vehicle policies maybe but for a normal car and normal use Adrian Flux are useless.

Got a quote for my Rover domestic, social, pleasure, and commuting 8,000-10,000 miles a year. Best quote fully comp with £250 excess £634.12 (I have a bit of history), Flux quote...

£2,116

..not bad for a £500 car eh?

Still not as bad as trying to get a "classic" policy from Aviva...

So crap I'm thinking of making a t'shirt...

There's your problem, classic policies are not really set up for cars that commute 10,000 miles a year.

Flux provided the lowest quote for me this year. Everyone else was from £20 to many hundreds and even a thousand more.

They also did well on my tweaked Passat previously.

Always find them easy to deal with and happy to chat through various options for cover and mileage.

I've just gone with them for my renewal. Initially the price wasn't that great but when I mentioned the price I'd had from the meerkats they were able to beat it. Helpful on the phone which is nice because I always use the internet for renewals etc.

Different quote. I was going to mothball the Rover and get a cheaper to insure car. The Aviva classic quote was for 1000 miles.

Yes.
To be a member of pistonheads you merely have to be registered on the forums.

There is no sort of additional membership or Gold Membership that is required.
There are no fees, no membership cards or any sort additional official club membership.

You just mention pistonheads and get a 15% discount (IIRC).

If you are sceptical then get a quote, then remember pistonheads and get another.

You may find that's it's a 15% discount before the NCB, or after, or before the discount based on car/location.
It may not seem like a clear 15%.

Whenever I've tried, I've got as far as getting the price and then mentioning that I'm eligible for the 15% discount.

This has always been met with the response "Ah, that's already been included" so to help the OP, no, there is no real discount.
