Suppose we all stayed inside the posted limits for a period ( impossible I know but....just imagine )

Where would all the civvy scams go for employment?

And........would the speed limts be reduced to re start the revenue train?

If this were to happen they would be hailed as a great success.

The people would continue to be employed because removing them would result in an immediate rise in speeding, which we know is a bad thing.

I have purposely left out any arguments relating to fatalities or KSI as the argument would be spun out to be cover "programmes of fatalities reduction"

Obviously since speed kills, if we are still killing without breaking the limits then the limits are too high.

They would simply become more covert and more sneaky about their selection of sites to enforce, until they once more caught enough people to balance their books.

Look at it from their point of view. Speeding fines are their source of income. Can you really see Mr SCP manager going along to the DfT and saying "Look, we are so poor at catching speeders that we haven't covered our costs this year, please lay us all off"?

Looking at the local situation, it seems that our SCP balance their "covertness" to catch just enough people to justify their existence. On the one hand Covert = loads of revenue but outrage from the public. On the other hand Overt = no income, so they play about somewhere in the middle, trying to strike a balance that ensures their operation can continue.

And they say we are cynical....!
