Well its Winter time Christmas just 7 weeks away so time to arrange this Christmas treat for the Chimaera,

Last year it was the outriggers at X-Works, before that i dropped a 450 in with a full tidy up.

So i need new shocks so only 2 to choose from Protech or Gaz Gold Pro, but which ones?

So what ones Pro or Gaz guys?

Also went with the Pro Tech. Only had a couple months of use but seem fine. Also as Neal says good 3yr warranty.

I used to have Pro-Tech, fine for the road.

I strongly advise you to specify standard + 20% for the spring rates as standard rates are too soft.

Managing to 'live' with mine (Protech), but only just.
Had to push them to top stiffness (click 13) to make the car stable.
The off-the-shelf offering is less than ideal (as HCM says), in the spring department IMO.
I have the 400 series.

I previously had GAZ (not Golds, and over three years ago) fitted.
Three sets in a row failed, all in under 1 month.
Took weeks to supply replacements each time.
The problem was never resolved or corrected.
I wouldn't touch any of their products ever again.
Clearly other people have had their experiences, and they appear to differ from mine.
But my experience of them was appalling. My car was left unsafe and undriveable for periods of weeks at a time.

I had superb after sales service with Pro-Tech, couldn't fault them.

I now run Gaz Mono's as I needed a more competant damper for T/D use and I have had these for over a year.

I must say, they are very good and I haven't had any problems!

Now a bit puzzled, i do like track days and nice firm set up on road too, spirited driving, so new question then, whats best for track days with fast road use too.

At the bare minimum you want + 20%.

I run 450 front, 400 rear. With dampers set soft that doesn't really feel that hard on the road and on track actually feels very compliant!

I would go for Nitrons or the Mono's, buy the best you can afford if it's a keeper.

I'll stick in a vote for Gaz Gold Pro's. I had them fitted by Dom and his crew at TVR Power in March and the car is so much better than the original Bilsteins that were taken off it biggrin I could not believe how bad the original shocks were in terms of wear compared to the new set given that they had no leaks. I also got a 2 year warranty as part of a special offer by TVR Power at the time.

I had the shocks set up for fast road use and the feel and feedback are exactly what I am looking for in a fast car. I am not a driving god (I am not a Griff owner tongue out ) but I now have confidence in the way it handles in all speeds through corners.

The next step for me is to have Dom and his crew fit braided brake lines and uprated fluid in March next year as I intend to get on a few more track days.

Can`t wait to get the Gaz Nickles off ,three years of adjusting and total crlaughp..50 clicks and only three or four of those give you anything tolerable..I feel like personally taking them back and launching them straight thtough the Gaz factory window..furious
