What filters and where from?

I have a Canon 450d and would like to start playing with filters (polarising etc) . Suggestions on what and where? I'm a bit of a newb.

What lenses do you have?

If they are all the same size (screw diameter) then you can get a screw on CPL.

Or buy a cikon P kind of thing with adapter rings.

Dont buy cokin ND or DN grads tho buy hitech - cokins cpl is good (82mm).

If you just want to use a polariser, the screw-in types are probably the way to go. If you have lenses with different thread sizes, buy for the biggest lens and then buy a step up ring for the smaller lenses.

If you want to use graduated filters you'd probably be better investing in a slide in filter holder.

Options seems to be Cokin, Hitech and Lee. All three do 85mm versions and 100mm versions. If you have a particularly wide angle lens, it may be better investing in the 100mm ones to try to ensure that the filter holder doesn't appear in shot or cause vignetting.

Personally, I went for the Lee Holder system and use it in conjunction with hitech filters (another thumbs up for teamwork) and it works well for me.
