Dammit, can't edit title spelling...

This Christmas we are driving down to morillon in Le Grande Massif region for a bit of winter snow.

We are taking the wife Lexus RX300 which will have knobbly M&S all terrain tyres.
Last couple of winters snow down here in Kent was pretty severe but it never even hinted it would struggle, so I'm confident it will cope.

But I'm now told it is the law to carry snow chains - is this true?

Think it's the law to either have snow chains or winter tyres, M&s logo'd would qualify. Whenever I've rented in the alps though the car has come with chains as well so I could well be wrong.

I'd be more comfortable with chains, you can get some proper snow at that time of the year.

If the road is snowy, the Gendarmes won't let you up if you don't have chains. They won't care what tyres you have.

Oh, not snow chiens. My bad.

I know you owned up to the title, but you don't get out of it without at least one silly post.

You speak from experience of course... rofl

OP, seeing as you have M+S tyres, you'll be fine. Don't know if you are planning to do much driving up the mountain roads or just take the cable cars, but it's unlikely you will find snow on the roads anyway. If you do, it will be cleared up sharpish.

For what it's worth, I lived in Samoens for 15 years, never even owned chains...
