I currently have a supercharged 5 litre TVR Griffith and am looking for a V10 E60 M5. Is there anyone in the Southampton,Bournemouth,Portsmouth area who has one i could have a look at? I dont want to waste sellers time untill i'm sure it's for me. I'm not looking for a test drive, but a ride would be good. Many thanks in advance. If you have the Eisemann exhaust even better lol

I have had tiivs for nearly eight years now, and I have had my current Tusc s for the last five plus years. , and been lucky enuff to own a M3 for the last 4 months, both cars chalk and cheese, but if the M5 is anything like it's counterpart, you won't be dissapointed, go for it, you only live oncesmile

T350C to E60 M5 (had to buy a family car)

Miss the tiv for it's looks and all round tivness but more than happy with the M5. The power and it's drive will surprise you

You won't regret it

I'm contemplating the same thing (well, actually still undecided between M5 Saloon or RS4 avant)
My problem is I'm planning on keeping my Chimaera, but I'm worried that either the M5 or RS4 is going to leave the TVR feeling a little slow and dull frown
Like they say, there's only one way to find out.........

I used to run a 4.5 Chim. On a performance level the Chim has nowhere near the performance of either, but it certainly won't feel dull imo. The TVR will still be great fun, and something to have some fun with on those sunny open-top driving days. The V8 tiv's also feel quicker than they are due to all that low down torque.

Get the M5 though the RS4 just can't compare to the masterpiece of the V10 engine driving

The RS4 is a lovely but boring car to drive, and is actually not that quick. The M5 is much more involving and quicker.

The M5 is a fast (very fast) saloon car, and feels just that. It's bd quick, but it doesn't feel like a sports car.

Sorry, but I'll have to take issue with that comment scratchchin

It'll handle better in the twisties, go faster, have more grip and much better brakes than the Chim. So it would beg the question how you define sports car wink

Defined purely by driving experience. The M5 is easy to drive quickly, the TVR isn't so. The M5 is still a family saloon. The TVR is a 2 seater with heavy steering and crap brakes. I'm not knocking the M5 by any stretch, it's an awesome car, and I'm not biased because I own a TVR. The M5 will always get anywhere quicker, but will it ultimately be as satisfying? In my opinion, no. I guess it all boils down to what you want out of it.

I didn't think you were. I just don't agree with your assertion that the M5 doesn't feel like a sports car - because it absolutely does driving

It also ISN'T easy to drive quickly - certainly not in terms of getting the best out of it - the power delivery if very peaky, so that's a lot of driver involvement in keeping it in the power band. If you want a get in drive quickly then then the RS4 with it's low down torque (or XFR, E63 etc)is going to be a better bet.

As you say horses for courses, I think an M5 makes a perfect stablemate for a Chim, Griff, Noble, Fezza or other 2-seater, as you lose some of the nimbleness but gain so much in other areas.

I'd totally disagree with that statement. I sold my DMS M5 in favour of a B7 RS4 saloon & the only aspect in which thw M5 had the legs was in a straight line in the dry, in every other area the RS4 was far more involving & quicker. Given it's got better traction, is 300kg lighter & was the 1st of the Audi's to get a RWD bias Quattro system, point to point it was quite a bit quicker than the M5 & in less than perfect driving conditions it was alot quicker.

The interior of the M5 was superior & the SMG box i loved, however the RS4 is far from boring & is still regarded as one of Audi's best RS packages yet.

From the RS4 i moved to a GT-R & that's a whole different ball game as it's both hugely involving to drive & insanely quicksmile

I'd doubt an RS4 would actually be quicker than an e60 M5, corners or not.

And it's more like 200kg weight difference.

I found the RS4 very efficient, beautifully built but tres boring to drive, like most Audis. Although to be fair it is miles better than most other Audis.

Yes it would be quicker than the M5 in the wet, but it's only quicker because it is idiot proof.

The M5 is much quicker in a straight line.

being better than a sports car doesnt make a car a sports car smile

keep the TVR and also buy the M5...

I have a TVR Sagaris, and until Feb 2010 I had a X5 4.8is, traded this for a M5 Touring and still have the Sagaris, life in the fast lane in both beasts

I tracked both many times & could make more progress in the RS4 than the M5, even in the dry. The M5 was defo a bit quicker in a drag race, but that was it's forte & given it's close to 100bhp up is hardly a surprise.
