Just saw this video and it really made me cringe:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XasWNT_KVHs

Apparently some insurance companies require them to have onboard camera's, so they get a lot of crash footage...

I know this is probably a small sample of years of footage, but the standard of driving seems appalling. Some of these are real "accidents", like losing a wheel, but most of them are plain "hey, I don't have brake for him, watch THIS!"

Anyone been there? Is it really just a small sample or everyday occurrence?
How about the on board camera? Is it a requirement in a lot of countries? First I've heard of it but imho a good initiative.

Russia is ok, but you have to know where you are going and its best not to stop smile

TBH I thought India was worse but most of these sorts of places are chaotic by nature and although they probably have a higher accident rate you dont see half the road rage that we get in our 'developed nation'

Could, be but I see a lot of imho intentional "ramming" (or, put it otherwise, not wanting to brake), surely some shouting/gesturing we do here is preferable instead?

Do they not have drink driving laws in Russia?

I have had a fair amount of time in Moscow and Siberia and only seen the odd crash, I am sure a similar amount of accidents happen in London every day? Drunk driving is a big problem though and I am sure a number of the above are drink related. When you go there you can be semi safe in the knowledge that if an old Fiat clone or Lada rams you and you are in something vaguely decent you will probably be ok!

Can't blame them tbh, after seeing this I'd have to be stface drunk if you want to get me in a car there.

Only watched a few minutes, but, most of these you wonder why they happen. Their reactions are so slow. And some are just "eh?" Why are they always turning across each other? Just baffling.

They seem to have real issues with left turns and red lights, don't they?

the highlights for were were the guy nerfing the other car off the road for blocking his overtake, the double overtaking and the oncoming orange truck taking to the hard shoulder during an overtake

Also a case of my road my way, whichever side of the road that i decide i want to be on.

At the end of that a driver opens their door as a scooter is going past, a little dangerous i think to ride any form of 2 wheeled transport over there, a land where "i am bigger than you, i have right of way" usually wins.

In their own environment (Russia) they're fine, mainly because they're all like that. But it can sometimes be tricky when they visit nearby countries with (to put it politely) differing models of traffic behaviour. Beware the Russian car transporter truck, especially when he's running empty!

The bloke in the white 4x4 which gets "fishtailed" near the start looks like he's jumping out for a ruck!

And I love the one who gets cut up, so waits until further down the road and punts the offending vehicle into the weeds!

And until recently, beer under 10% was considered a "food stuff" and was sold (and consumed) in the same way we would buy a can of coke.

Wow thats an interesting compilations, do they not use the mirors?

Also a few ladas seem to kick the back end out, is this due to ice on the road or are they rear wheel drive?
