I am looking joining the Elise crowd and currently trying to decide which one to go for. I took an Elise Super 160 out a couple of days ago, which I loved. This is Bell & Colvill's upgrade from a standard Elise, different from the Sport 160 I understand. Any tried one? Any comments? Good or bad moce?

a good conversion, but Ive never heard of one (or seen dyno charts of one) thats made 160bhp - most are about 150bhp.

Also it will be more difficult to insure (and more expensive)than a std car that is listed with the insurance companies.

Personally I think youd be better off getting a S1 111S with a few bolt ons (which will make a gen 160bhp) and then you have all the 111S extras too like close ratio box and comfy seats

Thanks for the feedback.
In reality I have been told it works out more like 154bhp, as you said, although I have been pleasantly surprised with the insurance quotes I have had so far, so I don't think that will be a problem.
Will certainly bear those points in mind though

Marsh, as you've noted, I've got the B&C Super 160 conversion on my car - I find it has significantly better pull through low revs in all the geras compared to the standard vehicle. I don't think you would pay much of a premium over a standard used vehicle to purchase one. If you want to try one again you're welcome to come down & try mine.

Thanks very much for the offer.
I am shortly to become a signed up member of the Elise group, having just got back from Bell & Colvill a few hundred pounds lighter for the experience, having left the deposit on an S1 B&C 160 :-)
Should be nice, Azure blue with magnolia leather.
Just gotta sell my MX5 now so I can pop down and pick up the new toy.

Cracking choice, same colours as my first S1. You should be able to easily sell your MAX now the sun's here (for a while at least!) Autotrader's always a good bet.

When I tried one I wasn't massively impressed. The kit (as it was back then) had different cams, exhaust, uprated fuel supply but no ECU change. When I spoke to BBR GTI (who did B&C spuer 140) they said it would really needed mapping correctly for the new cams.

Well yesterday I finally picked up my B&C Super 160 -I LOVE IT!! The performance is fantastic, and the sound is just awsome!! So far a good welcome from those on the road I have met as well - another 2 elises and an Esprit.

Right off for another play now.
