Peugeot RCZ - any good?
Discussion
I quite like the look of it insofar as it's a bit futuristic it's low and has big wheels.
But, it's FWD, it's a Peugeot.
Regardless of what's it's actually like underneath I can’t help but think it's just a 206 in a posh frock.
I know Vauxhall managed to make a bloody good car with the VX220 that was totally outside their normal range – but I'm just not sure Peugeot can pull it off with a 1.6l engine or a 2l diesel. (yes, I did just check wiki to see what engine it came with.)

Fail.Regardless of what's it's actually like underneath I can’t help but think it's just a 206 in a posh frock.
They should be pretty good, they use the same engines as the Mini Cooper (150 and 200hp 1.6 turbo) or a 163hp 2.0HDI for those who like their cars powered by coal. Pug's coupes have always been good, and far and away from their shopping trolleys.

Thanks, I'll admit I made a bit of a presumption on that one and didn't double check.
In that case it's certainly stolen a march on the TT and other such coupes as there aren't many RWD coupes around these days.
Certainly not in that price bracket.

It's not RWD. HTH.Thanks, I'll admit I made a bit of a presumption on that one and didn't double check.

I haven't driven one but from what I've read I think it depends on what you expect. Go in expecting a Cayman rival and you'll be disappointed; expect a TT rival and you probably wont.
Shame they glued the awful Peugeot corporate face onto it because it's otherwise a very good looking car.

Hmmm.Perhaps I shouldn't have just believed HellDiver then, he seems to be mistaken.
I'm sure he'll appreciate being put right.
As I said, I quite like the look of it, but underneath it's just a fwd car with a 1.6 engine.
If it was RWD with a 2L+ block in there I'd take another look.
Better looking than the TT, imo and I've heard it's a pretty decent drive (I can remember when FWD and Peugeot was a badge of pride! Obviously you're not a proper PHer though if you dare to suggest a FWD car can be fun) compared to the Audi.
Obviously it has echos of the Audi, probably surprising we've not seen more TT-alikes given the original's popularity with WAGs, but I'd take one over a FWD TT personally.
Very cramped in the back, though, like the Audi - The rear seats in either are more for show than practical use.

I was failing you because you were intimating that it being FWD and a Pug meant it was crap.
I didn't realise people thought it was test and that you were the examiner.I said that " Regardless of what's it's actually like underneath I can’t help but think it's just a 206 in a posh frock."
I stand by that.
Peugeot as a brand has a reputation – there's no point in pretending it doesn't.
In fact, Peugeot the company goes out of their way to reinforce their brand image on us with their adverts.
Vauxhall did break their branding with the VX220, which proves it can be done.
But I just don't think a 1.6l fwd car will do it for Peugeot.
I think they look rather good, even with the huge grin. They certainly have alot of presence. The engine line up sounds pretty decent and from what I've read the chassis is very capable and gould handle a few more ponies. My main worries would be reliability and the gearbox. I've yet to drive a petrol powered pug with a nice gearbox and the only deseasel pug I've driven with a nice gear change is the 3008 with either 1.6 or 2.0l hdi engine.
I remember all of the magazines reviewing the car very favourably when it was new to the market. I've sat in on and it was a nice place to be, they look good, apart from the massive badge on the front and a reasonably spacious. I guess the choice in the market place is this the TT or a Scirocco.
I think you misunderstand my point.
I'm not saying it's a bad car.
Pug make hatches, they also make hot hatches.
They sometime make bloody good hot hatches if that's your thing.
But, to me, that's all this is.
Just a hot hatch with a makeover.
(it's not even that hot with a 2l diesel)
It doesn't float my boat.
It's not a huge step outside the brand like the 220 was.
It's just another generic hot hatch, but without the hatch.
