Dan Wheldon Memorial Kart Race

Thought some of you chaps would be interested in this:
Race organiser Johnny Mowlem, a long-time personal friend and successful sportscar racer, commented: “I just wanted to put together an event to honour Dan. Aside from raising funds for one of the family’s chosen charities, I wanted to bring together people who knew and raced with Dan, to have some fun in his honour and give him a send off he would have been proud of.
“The event has the full support of Dan’s family and his dad and brothers will be taking part and share in the evening. I hope members of the public will also appreciate the opportunity to take part and remember one of Britain’s most successful and charismatic champions.”
Mowlem has already enlisted the support of 2009 FIA Formula One World Champion Jenson Button, reigning IndyCar Champion Dario Franchitti, F1 and sportscar star Anthony Davidson, Le Mans winner Guy Smith and World Touring Car Championship title contender Rob Huff, while he hopes to attract a full grid of drivers who knew or raced alongside the double Indy 500 winner and IndyCar champion.
Between 25 and 30 teams of four people, each including a professional driver and three members of the public, will take part in the two hour endurance race aboard DMAX 125cc two-stroke water-cooled karts.

To race real pro's and F1 drivers (and be humbled forever!), or to spend all day as part of 'team support' talking to them in the pits? Hmm....
Do you reckon Daytona are going to charge somesort of entry fee or entry restrictions to the circuit?
I could just turn up in my own overalls and blag it.

Sorry, just getting excited. I'm sure Dan would appreciate that, which would be part of the point of a kart race. All winners understand how the passion works...
They should have an admission fee though for charity for spectators and I'm not one to dodge that. I'm thinking of getting in the pit as I fancy the idea of chatting to some real racers on a quieter level than you could at a large event.

That's to compete - i don't believe there's any cost for coming down to support (very unlikely) but i'm sure some type of donation would be welcome 
Our team is made up of Jason Fowler - who designed Dan's race helmets and a pretty good karter, me ( a decent racer but a crap karter) and a complete novice, we're hoping for a good draw !

Are spectators welcome? Not been before but looking on Google maps there doesn't appear to be a great deal of viewing areas.
Ideally, I'd really like to help out in anyway; there's no point me entering as I lack any experience (plus too must ballast make Kart go slow), not really sure if I could do anything to help fellow PH teams out either, though willing to, as I imagine you'll already have everything covered.

The interest has been incredible and as such the available spaces were filled on a first come first served basis within hours of the race being announced.
We have added your name to a reserve list and will contact you should a space become available.

Ha ha ditto! I'm not bothered though, I'll wear one of my pistonheads tshirts so hope to bump into a few of you & of course some racing royalty!Bring the noise!!
Chuffed to bits, should be a grat event & for a great cause. My only concern is if it rains - new track, new karts, in the dark, probably on slicks, against 30 other mentalists & numerous champions of some kind!!!! Bring it on!
I asked them whether I could bring guests but they werent able to confirm which I thought was a bit odd - if every spectator donated £10 to charity they could really make a difference. Or I'll tell mrs underdog to wait in the car all night!!
