Has anybody changed the speakers in their Tamora?

The passenger side speaker does not sound well, so I am looking at replacing with something a bit newer.

One of the speakers that are currently fitted is shown below.

Boston CX6 speaker are apparently 6.5" (16.5cm). Was this a standard fitment for Tamoras?

Some manufacturers seem to sell 16.5cm, others 17cm, although looking at the details, the 17s are most likely 16.5s.

They should be a direct swap for something like this - can anybody confirm this?

Thanks

13cm were std. 16.5cm seemed to be a sensible upgrade size. This is what Carl Baker installed for me (MB Quart reference). To be honest any size should fit, all you need do is make the hole bigger.

Didn't you have the JP back box on your car ?

If so I wouldn't worry too much about the speaker as the best sounds come from the back !!

I have some uprated speakers on my Tam along with extra in the footwells and I still can't hear anything meaningful from them most of the time compared to the addictive sound from the exhaust.

This Tamora also has the JP back box fitted and does sound good (other than on the motorway).

I doubt I will listen to any music when driving, but anything that doesn't work properly on the car needs to be fixed. MB Quart may be overkill for my needs, but some decent newer speakers (Alpine/Pioneer etc.) should do the trick.

Hopefully they will be easy to fit if I get the same size. I am assuming they can be screwed into the bulkhead in the same manner as the ones that were removed.

Yup. I don't know much about car-audio, but I don't think they are top-end.

If it is an easy job to mount new speakers into what I assume is a GRP bulkhead, then I can put something more modern in.

Mine came with 5" Sonys and a crappy pioneer head unit I swapped the Sony 5" for kenwood 6"x9" and the pioneer header for an Alpine CDE 9850Ri out of the camper. I now have a 100w's of quality sounds to drown out those annoying rear sports cans!
