Change of plan....advice needed...........(twins inbound)
Discussion
Here is my dilemma....
Wifey up the duff ( second time round, we have a 3 year old btw)
Just got back from the 12 week scan.......
TWINS INBOUND....,!,,,,,,,
We currently have a 02 civic type r. This now has to go as there are only 2 seats in the back.
We require room for 3 child seats, room in the boot etc etc.....
Budget is 5k, this includes px'ing the ctr.
The wife also says that 3 child seats CANNOT be side by side in the back seats?....( i find this hard to believe)
My options...
Rav4
Honda crv
Focus cmax
Help is greatly appreciated.
(ps my recent hankering for an e39 M5 has now been put on hold..................ffs..............)

Something on the Audi A6 platform would suit you, large car, plenty of interior space to get your 3 child seats in, if you go for an Avant you'd have a huge boot space to put prams, toys, bags, shopping etc.

Congrats, ours were born last week (9 weeks early!)
I went for a Discovery 2 (which absolutely will fit 3 across) and a C-Max (which won't, but won't need to).
There's very little out there that will fit 3 across - even an S-Max is tight. The Multimac seat is expensive, and has a serious drawback for me - you can't fit a normal baby seat - i.e. one that also clips onto your pram.

9weeks early!,,,,how are you getting on with them?.....I went for a Discovery 2 (which absolutely will fit 3 across) and a C-Max (which won't, but won't need to).

Thanks for your input, and good luck with the little ones.
Three across the back really is going to mean a Touran or Picasso or Scenic or such like, that is to say a vehicle with three seperate, full size seats in the back row. Anything else will be difficult to get the seats to go in properly and securely.
I think the safety and comfort of the children for the few short years they need full size seats should take priority over what kind of car you might *want*. You can always change back to something more normal/lively when the time comes.

Galaxy. Also handily converts into a reasonable size van that can take 65 (I think) 8 foot lengths of timber, or 20+ concrete blocks, or a 3-seater sofa, or 1/2 ton of topsoil (in a bag - she would have killed me if I'd have just dumped it in).
The extra benefit of being able to sling a pushchair in the boot without having to fold it is a great bonus for a lazy git like me.
If you buy it as the wife's car, you can then get something fun for yourself

I had exactly this problem, and the same budget as you and went for a P2 Volvo V70, 2000 - 2007 ish. Can get a 250bhp T5 or a 300bhp V70R. Far better choice than some bus thing - I've come to like the car very much.
Don't believe a lot of the advice you get, very few cars and small MPVs can manage three across the back. Certainly not an A6 Avant, 5 series, Mondeo Estate, I tried them all. I don't think any of the cars you have suggested will do it either I'm afraid. These seats are damned bulky.

Exactly the same as us, three year old then twins.
We ended up selling the wife's focus and bought a 2006 XC90. Great all rounder.
Some of the estates / smaller 4x4's struggled to get in the 3 car seats so check carefully.
Oh yes, congratulations! It's extremely difficult for about 6 months so take all the help that is offered.

When our 3rd was born we had a Mondeo Estate and it was a huge struggle to get 3 seats in the back.
gave up and got an Alhambra TDi.
Its pretty good for a tall heavy MPV. Does high 30's around town/short journeys and mid 40's on a run.
Its been very reliable with just the usual brakes/tyres etc.. replaced.
Its a 130 bhp SE 03 reg and has 6 speed, cruise, split climate, heated front seats, heated mirrors, headlamp washers ... so pretty well equipped.
The Sharan and galazy are available for pretty much the same money, maybe the Sharan is a little bit more but I can't see them differing in drive, costs etc..
As above its huge with the seats out and can also fit loads more than an estate with the 2nd row in.
3rd row are full size and are usefull when the grandparents visit or they get to the 'fighting in the back' stage which we are going through now (aged 11, 9 & 4).
Hope this helps.
