We've been informed work are moving offices, and not to a very desirable area. I don't mind the move, but I don't fancy parking my car anywhere near. So, I'm after another one.

It needs to be around £1000, small, cheap to insure and maintain etc and above all, totally reliable. I can't emphasise the last point enough.

Other than that I don't care, petrol or diesel (though I'd prefer petrol), and can look as crappy as you like, so it doesn't get noticed.

I was thinking something like a Yaris or something else Japanese? Any ideas?

Mid to late 90s Honda Civic.

Ex-gf had one and she tried consistently to break it - no oil, no water, no problem! Its still going strong now 6yrs later.

Absolutely indestructible and would no doubt survive a nuclear holocaust.

Dull as ditch water, but you didnt ask for exciting smile

I've had my MB2 Civic nearly 10 years, the first thing to actually stop working was recently when the AC needed regassing....

There is an S reg 3door civic (EK????) in the village that is for sale for £1750, it's an auto with 28,000 mileswobble not even run in yet....

My Honda Accord typeS had nothing to report in 2 years. It was absolutely inconceivable that it would break down..

Any Honda would do.

PS A friend's Toyota Corolla was spectacular in the floods when a lot of 4x4s got destroyed.

I've got a 2004 Accord and it is a great car. Not the most exciting but a great spec and super reliable.

Fast/fun.
Reliable.
Cheap.

Pick up to any two. biggrin

Something small and Japanese with a naturally aspirated petrol engine. Or a Volvo S40 1.8 (that isn't a GDI), which is almost the same thing.

Or an LS400...

It's a good job he only wanted two of those criteria, really, isn't it?

Not avensis. Mine (2.0 vvti) suffered catastrophic head gasket failure which cost £2k to fix. The 1.8 petrols burn oil and the 2.2 diesels are prone to HG failure as well.
AVOID! ( in my experience)

Yes, precisely. i.e. it's not particularly a challenge.

Got to be the noddy shaped Nissan Micra really.

Peanuts to buy, peanuts to run, completely anonymous and very very reliable.

This thread might be interesting. I hope the catch isn't that he doesn't want to spend much money.
