Getting conflicting views on this - a couple of people have said that one can't drive during the 6 weeks after a caesarean, others have said ask the Doctor / midwife, others have said ask the insurance company. There's no evidence in my insurance policies that they could care less, and the midwife doesn't seem to think there's any issue. Any thoughts? I guess ultimately full disclosure is the best approach but I'm not sure I really want to pay a higher premium just because I asked.

Only a Doctor can say really. Insurer will say follow the advice of the Doctor.

I work on the basis of driving if I feel it is safe, unless a Doctor instructs otherwise.

Phone your insurance company.

When my other half had her leg in plaster they didn't care! Told her to crack on and drive where she wanted! laugh

My ex-wife was driving again 2 weeks after a caesarean when Fun Bus jr arrived. I don't recall making any disclosure to the insurance company at the time.

This ^^^ is the advice we give our policyholders.

Generally, the question she needs to ask herself is "Am I competent to drive?" she needs to be able to perform the basic tasks of driving un encumbered , specifically she needs to be able to perform a decent emergency stop.

If her legs feel relatively weak or she is not able to hit pedals hard enough to stop quickly (because she has had all her abdominal muscles cut and pulled about) then she could be putting other drivers and pedestrians at risk, and also herself for that matter (and junior assuming they would be in the car too).

I am not sure insurance companies have a schedule of how many weeks you need to abstain relating to different injuries. but I guess if the worst happened and there was a wreck, she might have to answer the question above if the section was within a few weeks

After cesereans we used to say as the poster above, she could start driving when she could carry out an emergency stop. (doctor) I would still also inform the insurance company; we all know how they like to weasel out of paying.

After my other half had a c section she was advised not to drive for 12 weeks. She was more than comfatble after about 6 and her doctor said it shouldnt be a problem to drive. She rang her insurance company and they advised that it was at her discretion and all they would do is put a note on the system as if she had an accident she may not be able to claim for injury on any part to do with the c section.
