S500 @ 9 years old?

Spotted this one in the 'Trader - An awful fot of car for the £s, what do I need to look out for? Not too worried about it's love of the "motion lotion" but how sound are the mechanics?

Keep an eye out for rust!!

Make sure everything electrical works. There is no ABC by the look of it so no problems there. The engines are heavy so front bal joints maybe an issue and a good service history with receipts so you can see when the brakes were changed last etc. Two keys as a replacement key can be north of £200.

It is a lot of car for the money.

It will have AIRMATIC which does have issues (strut will leak, then the pump runs to try and keep the car up so pump dies and it is all over) but nowhere near the nightmare that is ABC

The climate control system can be a right pain on this so check all working

I would be having a very good dig through the service history

That colour is an absolute nightmare to try and match properly

I bought an S500 about 2 years ago, have been almost faultless, looked at lot of cars though, one worse than the other. The S500 is a very nice car for the money, no doubt about that, but make certain you get the right one. Mine has keyless go which is almost a must when you're a bit lazy :-)

I got an S600 as well with ABC issues, I cannot recommend buying an old merc with ABC as this can be a nightmare, still trying to work out whats wrong with mine!
