Tracking down a van with its number plate
Discussion
Hi guys,
Apologies because I can only imagine this subject has been done to death but I've been trying the search function for about 40 mins to no avail, so sorry for the potential repost.
I got hit last night by a white van and I have the number plate after a little bit of a chase and I've reported it to 999 and been asked to visit a police station to report it.
However, I want to take this up with my insurer and would like to know as much as I can about the van, its owner. insurance etc etc
Is there anyway I can do this?
TIA

Yes go to the police (not an emergancy so dont call 999) they will be able to find out about the van through the DVLA.Apologies because I can only imagine this subject has been done to death but I've been trying the search function for about 40 mins to no avail, so sorry for the potential repost.

Give the insurance company all the details and they will be able to do the same though the DVLA.

By 'hit', what do you mean? Hit your car then drive off without stopping so need him to repair your car or knocked you off your bike causing you to gash your leg and you want him to pay you compo because that's 'what people do'.
Definitely the former - he/she hit my landcrusier last night and failed to stop at the incident. Not after compensation - just the repairs fixing through propoer channels.

Are you saying one shouldn't claim for compensation when you have been genuinely injured?Good luck with it, unfortunatley i have had a similar issue, though your situation could be different.
When i got run off the road by a white van a few years ago, i reported the vehicle to the police.
Apparently the van had no owner, tax, mot or insurance.
Obviously i was left to then pay for repairs and he got away with it.

Did you really call 999?
From the car hands free - yes,. And when I apologised to the emergency services for having done so I was told it was the appropriate thing to do as:a) I was still driving
b) I had tuerned the car around and was driving after the van to get the reg number and they were hoping to get as much information as possible at the time

Sorry to hear that - did it take long for the police to come back to with that information or was it almost immediate? When i got run off the road by a white van a few years ago, i reported the vehicle to the police.
