X150 XK & tall driver

Hi there,

in my quest for my next car I have added the XKR to the list. I've just popped in to my local dealer to have a first look, all they had was a brand new XKR with the XKR-S seats option (I'd be looking at used cars 07/08). What struck me is how little space there is inside!

I am 6ft5 and wouldn't say I was comfortable, probably wouldn't want to be stuck cramped inside for a long journey which kind of defeats the point of a 'sporting GT'...

Can anyone confirm my impression above? Would the convertible be any better (with the roof up I mean)?

I'm 6 foot 8 inches and I fit in a 2009 XKR. Have done a trip to France in it to Normandy and was fine. When I first tried it I felt the same as you, but after I played around with the seat a little got very comfortable. I love this casr so much!

I have the Steel bodied XKR

I personally feel there is a feeling of more space in the Coupe

I'm 6'3 and have a late 07 XKR. When I bought it I searched for one with a light interior and headlining. Vast majority seem to be black leather and aluminium which I find makes for a very dark and somewhat claustrophobic cabin, especially for such a large car. With caramel leather and the beige suede headlining it is completely different and feels very light and airy. I also preferred the coupe; the small rear window of the convertible cuts out a lot of light. I will go for the same interior when I change mine soon.

I read the story in Sir W Lyons biography, of Prince Philip coming onto the Motor Show stand in the early 60's, trying an E-Type, and commenting that there wasn't enough headroom. Sir William was not a short man himself, but always managed to get himself in. Phil the Greek is really very short. Sir William later remarked 'Obviously he doesn't know anything about making motor cars.'

In reality, if you sort out the seating position, you should have no problem at all. The X100 (steel) XK's were noticeably smaller, but I (at 6'2") have driven them extensively without feeling cramped - indeed one of their great qualities is how fresh you feel after a long journey, because it is so effortless. The X150 is better in every respect. The new performance seats are even better again.
