Young people bashing.

Is it just me that thinks that a lot of "ph-ers" have a very negative and stereo typical view of young drivers??
It seems that anyone not driving a sports car or over a certain age is instantly a "ned... chav... etc" with a falling to bits car. Now i agree that there are a lot like that but it is a very stereo typical and in my extremly sensitive mood, unjust and very upsetting
I'm nearly 19 with nearly two 2 years experience, passed my test 1st time and have had no accidents / points since driving. I've done pass plus as well as a rallying course and skid pad training. I aint an over confident or cocky driver and would like to think of myself as safe
Im sure I aint the only under 20 year old with a bit of sense while driving so give us a bit of respect and dont tar us all with the "chav" brush.
I'm nice really.
Rant over
(P.S. My car is new and not falling to bits)
(P.P.S Except a bit that came off on the motorway)

Good for you, but the statistics tell against your peer group; and your thoughtful contribution will not affect those. As mybrainhurts indicates, a good motorists keeps learning all the time and any apparent bias on here against young drivers is actually a continuing criticism of inexperienced motorists (of all ages) who seemingly never learn. Young drivers who do something silly and then brag about it are likely to get very short shrift - Streaky

Good on yer, young 'un.
I've had a licence for 41 years, and I'm still learning.
If you accept that, it'll go a long way to keeping you out of trouble.
You make a good point, but you're in a minority. Vast majority of your peers are a bit suspect.
Agree entirely with that,
I am a novice with 34 years experience, and clean record, my advice don't get too close to the car in front, especially if the driver's wearing a hat, and certainly not if it's a flat cap...

I have generally found that the young uns take care of their cars - well, those interested in cars, the ones to watch for dangerous vehicles / driving are the really old uns....
I must admit I do like talking to young drivers who have an interest in motoring. I only 'bash' young drivers that drive like tw@ts.....and old ones for that matter...

I'm 21,
Passed at 17. 2 years NCD, 3 Points (TS10 (02/02) - Long story)
Completed PassPlus and an 8hr RideDrive course
Driven a variety of different cars (Including Renault Espace, Vauxhall Nova, Rover 214Si
, Saab 9-5, VW Golf)and have probably driven well over 50k and i've been at uni for 2 years without a car!
I have to say driving larger cars mean you have to judge the size of the car and the gap your trying to get done more carefully, I think everyone should have to it)
I'm planning to a IAM course this year while i'm on my uni placement and when funds allow.
You get bad drivers at any age! I'm probably more experienced than my mum who has been driving for god knows how many years, but could still learn off my Dad who had driven well in excess of 500,000 miles.

Isn't it ironic that 'speed' cameras catch more older people than under 21s
I'm 25 and drive a hot hatch. I get flack all the time from my father about my 'poor' driving - after all he should know best with 30 years experience
- but who's got all the points? Who's been stopped more often? *touch wood*

Perhaps driver education is starting to work on the young.

Yeah- I'm another young driver who isn't like your stereotypical chav racer. 24, owned several high performance cars and a GSX-R600 and not a single point on my licence or accident in the 7 years i've been on the road (touch wood).
I save the 'brain out' riding/driving for the track mostly...

Im only 24 and have had numourous sports bikes and various cars (mostly company).
Never felt the need for neons or whatever. Also dont drive like a d*ck and have only been pulled over twice, once on my 125 on 'l' plates (may as well wave a flag saying "pull me over" ) and once on my CG when I overtook on some solid double white lines (clear straight road with doubles and inexperience + copper behind - never a good combination
)
Dont know why Chavs become like they do. Scarey thing is one day they might be arraning my mortgage or fixing my boiler in a few years
