Impreza Estate - any good?

I am going to be getting a fair amount of work done on the house over the coming months and have decided to get a car and just do trips to the local tip rather then have to keep paying for skips.
Thinking about getting a Impreza Estate, what are they like for ferrying rubbish around, they seem to have a decent enough boot space.
Any advice on what to look out for, ideally only looking to pay around £1200-1300
