BMW Power loss

Hi folks,
I hope that you can help me? I have a 2005 BMW 120d Sport (step auto). It has a full service history and has covered 35.5k miles. Just recently it has developed an intermitent fault where despite starting with no problem it has no power when pulling away or when there is any strain applied eg going up hill. The application of throttle seems to show on the rev counter but does not get to the wheels. There are no messages of failure on the computer. On a different occasion it starts and drives as it should. Any ideas please?
