Does anyone know if you can insure a 94/95 model Audi coupe under a classic policy with limited mileage?

Insurance companies seem happy to offer to insure my 94 XJ6 (X300) as a classic and have for a few years.
The trade off seems to be I can get an agreed value on a classic policy, but no no claims bonus build up. When I first looked a few years ago they wouldn't give me any business use cover on a classic policy, for that car, now they don't seem to mind if I'll keep to 3000miles. I was speaking to Footman James earlier this week. Its renewal time of year again.

Thanks, I will follow this up. I've seen the name footman james a few times on various topics so will give them a try.

Always wanted a 90's Audi coupe, if I can run one with cheap classic insurance I will definitely get one

My insurers, Locktons, classify any car over 10 years a classic and will insure with a maximum of 10,000 miles a year. Strangely, they,ve never asked me the mileage!

The good thing is about them is that they are nearly indestructible, particularly the five cylinder or V6 versions. The bad thing is that they have terrible handling (quattros much better in this respect though). Why not consider a 90 20valve ? They are awesome.

Would love a 90 20 valve, wanted one of those too for many years. The problem is they are a bit rare and when you do find a decent one, a bit pricey too. Audi coupes are still great value, handling im not fussed about. Its more about having it on the drive+occasional drives and because i've always wanted one.

I remember borrowing a colleague's S2 quattro Coupé back in the mid 1990's. Even as a relative youngster, I found it surprisingly slow and unrepsonsive. Quite a disappointment actually and totally lacking the brutal appeal of the original 1980's quattro.

The S2 is heavy and dead-feeling compared with an urQuattro. It's significantly faster, but doesn't feel it. Very strong though, I know which I'd rather crash in.

In answer to your question last year I insured a '94, 2l coupe with Performance Direct on Classic terms.
Basically if the cars over 15 yrs old and its not your only car then they'll insure it as a classic.

I had an S2 Avant, and it made my SAAB 900 T16 feel like a sports car, but I also have an edition of Performance Car which has the S2 winning a comparison test against an E36 M3 and a 944 turbo...

I insure a Volvo 850 T5, 1996. With Footman James as a second car and it's only £190! Bargain?

When I got my S2 avant it had a hole in the intercooler, and a hole in the dump valve. This was with full service history. It's a complicated car and not every garage knows how to look after them.
A chipped S2 is awesome, try one - You can insure them on classic insurance.

I also had a remapped (B5)S2 Avant (MRC) quite quick but the standard brakes are lethal, I have a remapped 944 Turbo S which is much quicker and stops when required !
The build quality on the Audi was supberb though i would have another with decent brakes and finished in Nogaro ;-)

I've had 3 80 Coupes from 1990 b3 - 1995 b4 and have all been on a classic policy. I still miss my old 5 pot.

Footman James are coming under massive pressure from their underwriters to change their book to classics being over 20 years and not daily drivers! They have managed to lose the company that I work for, £1.9m last year on their so called 'classic' book of business.
I would say it isn't a classic yet mate, look for proper everyday insurance with a reputable insurer!

.... but that would be more expensive compared to a Classic policy rolleyes

I would try Carole Nash brokers. Their core business is bikes, but they do good classic policies. IIRC, they contact their underwriters to check if a car is a 'classic' or not ! The newest car I insured with them was a '94 XJ6 3.2 Sport. £155 per year, result.
