Brother has a holiday home which he uses for his own personal use.

Over the Winter months he removes the furniture to claim the unfurnished property council tax exemption. Council are currently demanding an inspection of the property.

Problem is they are three hours drive from the place. Brother values his holiday and isn't prepared to take a day off, his Wife is self employed, so if she visits the property then she loses a days money.

Furniture was removed at a weekend.

Can the Council insist on an inspection? (and no they don't offer weekend or evening time slots)

What is more important to them, a day off work or the exemption?

Quite simple really.

I am not saying your Brother is fiddling the system, far from it, but I am glad they do inspections because I imagine the system gets raped.

Can the Council just look in the window? Doesn't a neighbour or someone local have a key?

The reality is they can insist in an inspection, too many people try and scam the system for them to do anything else.
