Bearing in mind all his court cases, I wonder if he has a private jet on standby.

I'll believe it when I see it, an egotistical of the worst kind.

'Mr Berlusconi, who first took power in 1994, is Italy's longest serving post-war prime minister.

He is also thought to be worth $9bn (£5.6bn), and controls an empire spanning media, advertising, insurance, food and construction.

He has been accused of embezzlement, tax fraud and false accounting, and attempting to bribe a judge. But he has always denied wrongdoing and has never been definitively convicted.

Mr Berlusconi's political struggles have been accompanied by a string of lascivious reports in the Italian press about his private life, culminating in his trial on charges of paying for sex with an under-age prostitute.'

I never knew there was a president, presumably SB's boss, fk me he's been keeping a low profile...hehe

Wonder if he'll be back (assuming he's still alive).

Could work out well for him as won't be about for the majority of the pain.

He's 75, I think that's the last we will be seeing of him.

Will he get a film as good as Il Divo?

One of the favourites to replace him is Chairman of Fiat Luca di Montezemolo.

Replacing a buffoon with a manipulative shyster. He might help Italy but he'll do it whilst screwing everyone else, a bit like Berlusconi.

Over in Rome, where the EU is manoeuvring to bring down Berlusconi, the name 'emerging' to be the next prime minister is Mario Monti. Monti is not only a former European Commissioner, but he is also the author of a report commissioned by José Manuel Barroso on the future of the single market --which was a report meant to plan ways the powers of Brussels could be further extended into every part of the member states economic and fiscal lives, including taking control of corporation tax rates.
More, Monti is a member of the Spinelli set, a euro-fanatic group set up by members of the European Parliament and Brussels heavies such as Jacques Delors to press the construction of a final, centralised government in a country called Europe
It all stinks.

And even when he is finally gone, he'll likely still be receiving the salary and all benefits associted with the position...

Dan Hannan agrees with you, and so do I.

Make that three. I find it hard to believe that so many fail to comprehend what's happening, with Greece and Italy's leaders being usurped at the whim of the EU puppet masters. We are seemingly sleepwalking into a totalitarian nightmare, and no-one bats an eyelid - and we wonder in horror as to how despicable regimes managed to get into power in the past. Here we are again! (Possibly)

In car circles, Monti is well known for introducing the Monti legislature about 10 years back which forbade manufactures forbidding dealers to sell more than 1 brand.
