Just watched this with my eldest son. Felt quite moved by some of the tales about acceptance. Especially the mother who helped her son become a woman, advising him on style and make-up tips.

The she to he's I thought were very convincing, a couple of the he to she's not so. But they admit they're in the early stages and need work.

Also found the topic of a 'third gender' interesting.

But did cross my legs when watching Sarah have her penis sliced and testicles removed and popped in a jar!

I was quite impressed, thought this was going to be much more exploitative than it was. Will be watching the series. smile

Thye didn't seem to touch on the subject of sex and sexuality being different things altogther and that in a majority of cases male to female transexuals are straight. Therefore after a sex-change operation they would still be attracted to women and usually end up with lesbians. Bizarre ay? smile

It may touch on this later in the series.

The only post op transexual I've ever known, was actually gay and transexual, so it worked.

Can't really comment on the female to male stuff, although one of them was pretty convincing and would fool most people.

There was a similar programme a couple of weeks back.

2 teenage girls (at oppposite ends of the country) miserable and convinced they should be boys. Gay boys. So they ended up living and going through the early parts of their transformations together. Mind boggling but at the same time moving seeing desparately unhappy kids finding themselves.

I thought it was a great programme too, very positive and highlighted some real issues.

As a trans woman myself it was nice all the participants were shown in a positive light without getting too sensationalist smile

It'd be cool if you guys can try and avoid saying things like "pretty convincing and would fool most people". The dude in the programme isn't trying to deceive anybody, he's just trying to live his life and express his gender the way it is.

I'm guilty of that and apologise. My son is gay, and dresses often as what is currently termed as 'transvestite'. He has friends from all walks, including pre and post op. We both had a giggle, both cried and both thought the 'third gender' issue very interesting. He's set a series link for this and I'm going to try and watch with him. You know, for some 'girly bonding'.

i thought that was interesting too. I've read about it before but never come across someone who feels that's what they are. Personally, I feel that i'm a woman and that's it, but i can see how it works for someone like Donna.

Missed the start of the programme so don't know if there was a warning, but cutting that womans dick off made me yelp.

That's a sentence I never thought I'd type.

Very interesting programme and I will be watching the rest of the series.
