A perfect example of money buying someone into F1

Max Chilton joins Force India for Abu Dhabi test !
He's never won a race in anything but Tcars and I don't think he has ever finished a season than being at the back of the field ? Though i think he had a ok season with Carlin in F3 but then again Carlin is the team to be with
GP2 2010 - 22nd

Do you mean touring cars? Because that was Tom Chilton (his brother). He's never won a race in anything but Tcars
I wonder how much Mr Chilton is paying ?
Got to be in the region of £750k + ?

Quite a few went through T-cars, IIRC, including Brundle jnr, Palmer jnr, both Chiltons, etc. Towards the end of the series the budgets went mental, as did the amount of contact, hence the low turnouts before it was canned.

Isnt T-cars some lower rung touring car league for younger guys? Im sure a guy I went to school with (Johnny Cocker) did TCars while we were at school.
Yep spot on. It was juniors - 14 to 17 I think. Ginetta juniors has superseded it And yes, Johnny Cocker did do it and then went on the porsche grid i think ?

I had wondered why there wasn't a series where the cars were basically spaceframes with a car-like body on top, it's very popular in America. Clearly not so much over here.

If you win a lot of cash (say, the Euromillins £100m), wouldnt you give some cash to one of the smaller teams in return for soem friday time? The ability to be in a current F1 car, on an F1 track. Surely after some practice in lower formulae cars, it'll be worth some £m...
Assuming they'd be happy with a 44 year old carrying a few extra Ibs, then I'd be in like shot :-)Works the other way round too.
In 1992, I managed to wangle a press pass for tyre testing at Silverstone. Williams were running two cars for Mansell and Patrese and a third for a host of drivers, most of whom I'd never heard of before or since. I was told that they'd each paid £100k for their moment of glory. I reckon there were about 5 other drivers so that's an income of £0.5m and I rather doubt it would have cost the team that to be there. Plus, this was then a regular thing at a variety of circuits throughout the year and today, I'm fairly certain, would cost a lot more than £100k.
But, with the testing ban, it's a revenue stream that isn't available to the teams any more so when it is, they need to jump on it.
Personally, I have no issue with it. I do have an issue with a pay driver taking the race seat of a more skill full but underfunded driver.

To be fair max is very good, and kobayashi was crap in gp2.
You are so wrong. Max is talentless just like his brother. They always have been always will be. There are hundreds if not thousands of better, faster club drivers than these two. This is a disgrace and Force India should be ashamed of themselves. Are they that desperate for cash? Perhaps the truth behind the Sahara deal will soon be out........

Some people need to get real.

"talentless" - really?
Some people need to get real.
Your last sentence is correct but it should be aimed at yourself if you think the Chiltons have got anywhere for any other reason than £££££. They are both classic examples of the worst sort of 'professional' racing driver, as has been cleary demonstrated by the elder brother's 'running' of his team in recent years.
Some people need to get real.
Underachievers of the lowest order.
