I've a slight leak in one of my towel rails and whilst wrestling with the threaded fitting that screws into the bottom of the damn thing I might have damaged it. A good amount of plumbers tape later and it's still bloody weeping. Thusly I need a new one.

It's the bit that screws into the rail then the valve screws up to that, I've got no facking idea what they are called or if they are even available to buy as seperate item.

There's a plumber merchants down the road from work, can someone in the know tell me what the jobby is called before I go in and ask for a set of fallopian tubes.

Towel rail has been in use approx 10 months and is starting to rust at the fitting too. Cheap POS B&Q tat!!

You mean the valve tail?

They usually come with the valve, but they are generally universal.

Two types, 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch.

I'm guessing your valves are chrome, don't know what type you have but you might be able to get away with buying a cheap lockshield valve for a radiator as long as the radiator fitting is chrome enough for the towel rail and won't look out of place.

It's the bit above the top valve nut. It's threaded and screws into the bottom leg of the rail.

That's the valve tail. You won't get one on it's own, but you can get a lockshield valve complete cheaply enough. It's 3/4" union. An angle valve will probably be cheaper than getting a straight one if you're only after the tail.

No thats incorrect. The fallopian tubes are leaking, you need to ask for some of these.

If thats the actual problematic valve it looks to my eyes as if the radiator itself has failed, ie the threaded blank into which the valve tail is fitted is seperating from the radiator body. You can see a line around the threaded blank where the paint has been broken.

Time to close the valves, drain the rad into a bowl and replace the rad or reweld the failed seam.

Cheers,
Tony
