Hi Guys is there any advantage of running a short exhaust with on or a small silencer say out of the front bumper, straight from the turbo with a seperate screamer pipe for the wastegate rather than a normal exhaust exiting at the back with the external wastegate plumbed back in to the system.

Thanks
Si

Hi Si, no particular advantage other then weight saving, a negative can be boost creep if it's too free flowing, what car is this on? I've done this for people on various cars, the obvious pitfall being pulled over if the police think its ott.

Just on a saxo turbo im running full 3 inch system to the back at the mo im just wanting to put some sort of covers on the underside to aid air flow and the exhaust is in the way lol

Im running an eboost2 so that should be able to aid the boost creep?

There is no such thing as a turbo exhaust that is too free flowing.

And boost creep has sweet FA to do with it. If you suffer boost creep then the wastegate is too small.

And virtually no boost controller can cure boost creep. It's a design problem than needs a design change to fix. ie a larger wastegate.

I can name several cars that boost creep when the exhaust is too free flowing, seen it and cured it on plenty too.

Wrong. Boost creep is because the wastegate is too small. FACT.

With a restrictive exhaust, this was choking both so boost creep was never an issue.

If there are no rules on exhaust, no noise limits etc etc. Then just use the shortest and sensible diameter route to a safe exit.

ie, not underneath the car or somewhere silly. And baring in mind flames etc could exit the exhaust as well as smelly stuff.

agree with this... mine is mid engined but i made the exhaust as short and free flowing as possible, wastegates were unsilenced and sounded awsome but failed drive bys on track lol

Have seen this done on Evos, however they where not road legal! which part of the exhaust is causing you problems? Is there any ways of running oval section in these areas?
